Exhibition | Arlon in the Spotlight
Description
The Gaspar Museum invites you to discover a unique selection of more than forty vintage posters produced after 1860. Living witnesses to collective memory, these ephemeral documents tell the story of Arlon through its major events: art exhibitions, patriotic commemorations, cultural events, propaganda and public sales.
Some of these posters, true works of art, bear the signature of local artists; others, more modest, are examples of utilitarian typography or popular lithography. All, however, fulfilled an essential function: to inform and engage, at a time when public displays were a central means of urban communication.
This exhibition reveals an entire society – its tastes, struggles, celebrations and visual codes. A graphic and historical journey to the heart of Arlon, its walls and its memories.
